High above the fjord stands the peak of one of the more uncommon mountains of the Lofoten Islands. During the midst of the night, photographer Rowan van der Waal made his way to the summit to capture the rising sun above the mountains in the east, creating a striking glow across the early morning landscape around the fjord below. The tiny villages one can spot in the distance become faint in the mesmerizing landscape of dramatic peaks and steep cliffs all the way down to the water. As the sunlight enters the photograph from one direction, in creates a pattern of colors on the different mountains in reflects on, granting this photograph its name: “Colorful Mountains”.
